1.     What services does OLVHS Outpatient Clinic provide?

OLV provides mental health services to children, adolescents and adults. We offer mental health counseling at our main clinic, throughout Buffalo Public Schools, SUNY Erie Community College and Bryant & Stratton College (the latter through partnerships with Say Yes to Education). 

Our clinicians follow a person-centered and trauma-informed approach and work closely with every individual to address his/her needs.  In addition to providing mental health and medication management services, we work with additional programs such as Health Home, CFTSS, HCBS and can provide referrals to additional services that may be right for you and your family.

2.    How can I make an appointment?

Call our office at (716) 828-9651 to schedule an appointment.  Appointments are normally scheduled within 1-2 days!

3.     What are common signs/symptoms of mental illness?

Some commons signs include: depression; excessive fear, worry or anxiety; suicidal or homicidal thoughts; excessive anger or irritability and social withdrawal.

4.    How common is mental illness?

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. 1 in 5 U.S adults experience a mental health illness, 1 in 25 U.S. adults experience a serious mental illness, and 17% of youth (ages 6-17) experience a mental health disorder each year.

5.    What are the most common types of mental illness?

Some of the most common types are: depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and Bipolar Disorder.

6.    Can mental illness be prevented?

While there is no way to prevent mental illness completely, seeking treatment early can offer support and guidance when dealing with a mental health disorder. Being able to recognize the warning signs of mental illness is the first step in the recovery process.

7.    Can family members participate in the treatment process?

Yes!  Mental health illness not only affects patients, but those who are close to them.  We encourage family members to participate in the entire treatment process.

8.    What if I don’t have medical insurance, can I still be seen?

Yes!  We offer a sliding fee scale program.  Ask our staff about the application process.
